KG Class – A Trusted Kindergarten in Bali
(5–6 Years Old)

At Umalas Kids Club, our Kindergarten program bridges the British EYFS and Key Stage 1 (KS1) — providing a safe, inspiring, and structured space for 5- to 6-year-olds in Bali. We prepare children not only for academic success but also for life, nurturing confident and independent learners who are ready to transition into primary school with ease.

What Will My Child Learn in Kindergarten?

Our flexible British program blends academic readiness, emotional intelligence, and social development. By utilising the seven key EYFS areas and KS1 core subjects and topics, we focus on developing foundational skills in core subjects such as English, Mathematics, and Science, while also introducing foundation subjects like History, Geography, and Art, which are essential for thriving in Year 1 and beyond.

Phonics & Reading – Strong Foundations in Literacy

Phonics remains a vital part of early literacy at the Kindergarten level. Building on their EYFS learning, children strengthen key skills through Jolly Phonics and Letters & Sounds frameworks.

Children will:

✅ Blend and segment sounds fluently to decode unfamiliar words

✅ Learn tricky and high-frequency words through repetition and games

✅ Spell phonetically and begin applying basic spelling rules

✅ Read simple books with growing fluency and comprehension

✅ Write sentences independently, including labels, captions, and short stories

By the end of the year, many children are confidently reading early-level books and writing complete sentences — essential outcomes for a smooth Year 1 transition.

Maths – Conceptual Understanding Through Play

Our approach to maths builds strong number sense through hands-on learning, games, and meaningful real-world exploration.

Children will:

✅ Count confidently to 100 and beyond

✅ Add and subtract using concrete objects and visual strategies

✅ Recognise patterns, number bonds, and early equations

✅ Identify 2D and 3D shapes in everyday surroundings

✅ Use coins in shopping role-play and other counting activities

✅ Tell time to the hour and half-hour

✅ Compare length, weight, and capacity through sensory experiments

Math is woven into daily life — from cooking and building LEGO bridges to nature walks — creating meaningful, practical understanding that sticks.

Inquiry-Based Learning: Science, Art, & the World Around Us

Beyond core literacy and numeracy, children explore broad topics that ignite curiosity and creativity through project-based learning and discovery.

Subjects include:

✅ Science: Explore senses, conduct simple experiments, observe plant life cycles, and examine materials

✅ History: Learn about families, traditions, important community figures, and how things change over time

✅ Geography: Understand local landmarks, maps, weather patterns, and global awareness

✅ Art & Design: Draw, paint, craft, and experiment with textures and famous styles

✅ Music & Dance: Engage in rhythm games, singing, and expressive movement

✅ Design & Technology: Construct models, build with tools, and enjoy basic cooking lessons

This cross-curricular approach encourages critical thinking, creative expression, and a deepening understanding of the world — essential components of holistic early education.

Preparing for Primary School – The Skills That Matter

Social & Emotional Development

Transitioning to primary school isn’t just about academics — it’s about building a strong foundation of confidence, emotional strength, and social awareness.

Social Skills:

Children learn to:

✅ Collaborate in pairs and small groups respectfully

✅ Negotiate, share, and resolve conflicts through guided play

✅ Recognise social rules and show empathy in interactions

✅ Engage in role-play and team games that teach cooperation

These essential life skills are explicitly taught and reinforced daily through meaningful, supervised interaction.

Emotional Maturity:

We support emotional growth by:

✅ Leading daily circle time, mindfulness, and gratitude sessions

✅ Helping children identify and manage their feelings with confidence

✅ Encouraging resilience, patience, and responsibility

✅ Creating predictable routines that foster a sense of safety and security

Our aim is to help children grow emotionally resilient and self-aware — traits that support smoother transitions into “big school.”

Communication Skills

Strong language development is at the core of school readiness. We focus on nurturing expressive, confident communicators.

Children benefit from:

✅ Show & Tell, group storytelling, and guided discussions

✅ Building full sentences with correct grammar and sequencing

✅ Expanding vocabulary tied to each weekly theme or topic

✅ Listening to and following multi-step instructions

These activities ensure your child enters Year 1 with clear articulation, growing vocabulary, and confidence in expressing ideas.

Cognitive Growth & Problem Solving

In Kindergarten, we foster a curious mindset and foundational thinking skills that prepare children for the next academic stage.

Children are encouraged to:

✅ Explore reasoning, sequencing, and categorisation

✅ Strengthen attention and memory through targeted activities

✅ Apply decision-making and early problem-solving strategies

✅ Ask questions and investigate — cultivating lifelong curiosity

These cognitive skills empower children to become independent, confident learners ready to take on new challenges.

Physical Health & Independence

A confident learner is also a physically capable and self-reliant one. We support both fine and gross motor development while encouraging autonomy in daily routines.

Physical Coordination:

Children take part in:

✅ Climbing, balancing, and obstacle challenges that build strength and coordination

✅ Fine motor tasks like tracing, threading, and pencil control

✅ Practical life skills such as washing hands and hygiene awareness

Independence Milestones:

By the end of Kindergarten, your child will confidently:

✅ Manage their belongings, zip up their bag, and stay organized

✅ Dress and toilet independently

✅ Select and stick with tasks, asking for help when needed

✅ Transition smoothly between routines and follow instructions with ease

We nurture self-reliant learners who are ready to take on Year 1 with confidence — both emotionally and practically.

Tailored Attention: Our Class Size & Ratios

At Umalas Kids Club, we go beyond standard expectations to offer one of Bali’s most personalised Kindergarten experiences. In line with the EYFS and the Key Stage 1 (KS1) Statutory Frameworks, our program is designed with your child’s safety, emotional well-being, and development at heart.

Unlike many larger institutions, we keep our class sizes intentionally small — maintaining a staff-to-child ratio of 1:10, compared to the KS1 guideline of 1:30. This means more one-on-one time, stronger emotional support, and deeper learning connections for every child.

Our passionate educators are always within sight and earshot, ensuring that each moment is not only safe but also purposeful. Every interaction is an opportunity for growth — tailored to your child’s individual learning style and developmental needs. Whether it’s guiding early literacy, supporting emotional resilience, or nurturing creativity, we’re here to help your child thrive.

???? “Well, I met the teacher after 4 terms, closing pre-school KG1, I am super happy with the progress of my 5 years old boy. I can tell from what the teacher told me and also I notice a change in his behavior at home. Umalas kids club is a great school where kids are very well taken care of. It’s obvious and the results prove it. I super duper recommend Umalas Kids Club!”

Gabrielle Palmas – Mixed Family – 5⭐

???? “Great school ideally located (convenient for dropping the kids), lots of nice playground infrastructures for the kids to chillout between learning times. Most important, the teaching team is proficient, qualified and very efficient ; and the administration listens to the concerns then quickly provides solutions.

I recommend them to any parents in Bali !”
